Obituary of Elsie Jean Aikens

LITTLE HARBOUR - Elsie Jean Aikens, 95, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour, Saturday, January 19, 2013 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Homer Woodbury and Alma Jane (Robinson) Gratto. Elsie was a graduate of Nova Scotia Business College. She did office work for various businesses in Pictou County. Elsie was a highly involved member of Trenton Church of the Nazarene where she taught Sunday school, worked with the youth and held various positions in the church. She enjoyed many crafts, most recently knitting various items for the Aberdeen Hospital. Elsie was a loving mother, aunt, sister-in-law and friend. Surviving are her children, Faith (Steve) Patey, Edmonton, Alta.; Robin Aikens, Little Harbour; grandson, Bobby Chawner, Wetaskiwin, Alta.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Lloyd Aikens; sister, Dorothy Gray; brother, Ambrose Gratto. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan 24 in Trenton Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Bert Collins officiating, assisted by Rev. Todd MacDonald. Interment will be in Lorne Street Cemetery at a later date. Donations may be made in Elsie’s memory to Gideon Bible or the Church of the Nazarene.
