Obituary of Robert William Hawboldt
CHURCHVILLE – Robert William Hawboldt, 80, Churchville passed away Friday, December 16, 2016 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by his family.
Born in Stellarton, he was a son of the late Richard and Eliza (Keddy) Hawboldt. Robert enjoyed gardening and target shooting and was a member of the Staghorn Shooting Club. Robert was an elder and briefly a treasurer of the Springville Presbyterian Church, Springville and was he was a member of the Oddfellows Lodge #30, Springville and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #28, Stellarton. He joined the RCN in 1953 and served on the HMCS Magnificent, Portage, Lanark, Quinte and Nootka. In 1960 he remustered into the Canadian Army in the Provost Corps, later the Military Police and was posted in Gagetown, N.B., London, Ont; Soest, Germany; Borden, Ont; Cornwallis and Gagetown from when he retired in 1991. During his career he was on several tours and exercises in Cyprus, Germany, and all over Canada. After his retirement from the military, he served with the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires for several years.
Surviving are his wife, Sylvia (Legere); sons, Mike (Gloria), Kingston; Robert (Jessica), Calgary, Alta; James (Cassandra), Winnipeg, Man.; daughters, Theresa Hawboldt, Edmonton, Alta.; Valerie (Dan) Glendenning, Bathurst, N.B.; Lynn (Mike) Curnock, Dartmouth; Tanya (Dennis) Balesdent, New Glasgow; Christine (Kirk Drummond) Hawboldt, P.E.I.; 15 grandchildren; sisters, Mary (Melvin) MacKeigan, Dorothy Rogers, all of Westville; Pauline Hawboldt, Quebec; brother, Richard, Westville; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Sally, Judy and Georgina.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday December 20th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday December 21st in Springville Presbyterian Church with Rev. Gail Johnson-Murdock officiating. Interment will be in Springville Cemetery.
