Obituary of Isabel Mae Cook
LOURDES – Isabel Mae (Nairn) (Rutledge) Cook, 81, Lourdes, passed away Saturday, September 10, 2011 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by her family.
Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Mary Constance (MacDonald) Nairn. She operated the former Sundowner Motel, New Glasgow with her late husband, Garnet, for over 30 years. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton. Isabel was very supportive of her children, rarely missing a hockey, rugby or basketball game. Her home and kitchen were always open to her children’s friends. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Surviving are her daughter, Celyn Cook (Rick), Lourdes; sons, Peter (Judy), Bradley (Shirley) and Allen (Lisa), New Glasgow; Duane (Kim), Linacy; Allison (Krista), Truro; Jason, Lourdes; former daughters-in-law, Kim and Debbie; former, son-in-law, David; grandchildren, Gavin, Brett, Terry, Sean, Crystal, Carrie, Jordan, Robyn, Katelyn, Anastasia, Isabella, Alexandria, Kayla, Kelsey and Jordan; great-grandson, Andrew; sisters, Catherine “Nan” Vickers, Lourdes; Constance Richard, Ottawa; brother, Henry (Jean) Nairn, Brighton, Ont.; many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Chester Rutledge; second husband, Garnet Cook; brother, Ray; brother-in-law, Paul Richard.
There will be no visitation at Isabel’s request. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 17th in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church with Father Peter MacDonald presiding. Interment will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens with reception to follow in the Sister Catherine Steele Centre.
Family flowers only. Donations may be made in Isabel’s memory to the Sister Catherine Steele Centre, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada – Atlantic Division.
