Obituary of Donald Gerald McCallum

MACLELLANS BROOK – Donald Gerald “Don” McCallum, 70, of MacLellans Brook, Pictou County passed away Thursday, January 08, 2009 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow surrounded by his family. Born in Bible Hill he was the son of the late Ernest Aubrey and Jessie Leona (Sharp) McCallum. He was a member of St. Georges Anglican Church, New Glasgow, the Lions Club, Pictou County Wisemen, Westville Curling Club and the Ham Radio Club. Don was also the past vice president of the Pictou County Chamber of Commerce. He was a respected memeber of the business community, and retired from Central Supplies (New Glasgow) where he had been the General Manager. He was also previously employed as a store manager for Sobeys, a General Manager for IGA, and worked as a carpenter at Cyril Mason's Carpentry. Don's favourite pastimes were fishing, photography, "his" computer and always trying to put a smile on your face. Don’s greatest love in life was his family and especially his two grandsons Jarod and Corbin of Bedford who will desperatley miss their Grampie. He will be sadly and greatly missed by his loving and devoted wife of 48 years Greta Mae (Oickle); son Wade (Maggie) McCallum, Bedford; brother, Roy (Marion) McCallum, Dartmouth; Aunt Bea (Pye), Truro; as well all his nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister in infancy and his Aunt Dorothy Clay. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors 2-4 p.m. Sunday, January 11 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday in St. George’s Anglican Church, 199 Temperance Street, New Glasgow with Father M. Elliott Siteman officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in Castle Hill Cemetery. Donations may be made in his memory to Canadian Diabetes Association, Canadian Cancer Society or the IWK Health Centre Foundation.
