Obituary of Arthur Frederick Murdock
THE PONDS – Arthur Frederick ``Hoss`` Murdock, 90, The Ponds, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2013 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by his family.
Born in The Ponds, he was a son of the late Alexander Robert and Lucy (Dearne) Murdock. Arthur was a fisherman from a young age and fished out of the Lismore Wharf on the "Hopsing" and "Papa" while employed with the former Trenton Works and the Department of Transportation as a snowplough operator. He was a member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Merigomish. Arthur enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. He enjoyed watching hockey and spending time with his family, either in quiet conversation or at the many family functions. Arthur will be missed by his little canine companion, Katie. He was a loving husband, father, papa, papa gg, brother, uncle and friend.
Surviving are his wife, the love of his life for over 60 years, Evelyn (Jordan); daughters, Lorraine (Benson) Wright, The Ponds; Debbie (Billy) MacKay, Stellarton; Sandra (Mike) Pitts, The Ponds; Colleen (Ronnie) Olding, Merigomish; Darlene (Paul) Hamilton, Lower Barney`s River; Marlene (Robert) Fraser, The Ponds; grandchildren, Shawn, Lisa, Steven, Amanda, Tammy, Jody, Pam, Wendy, Jacqueline, Derek, Robbie, Elisha, Ben, Nathan and Nicky; 23 great-grandchildren; sisters, Loretta Arbuckle, Antigonish; Norma Mingo, Brookfield; Doris (Gerald) Thompson, Avondale; brothers, Stewart (Phyllis), Kenny, Sammy, Jackie, The Ponds; numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by great-grandson, Joshua; sisters, Aleta Murray and Anna Mae Nicholson; brothers, Harry, Jamie and LeRoy.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Feb 24 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, Feb 25 in St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church with Rev. Larry Welch officiating. Interment will be in Murray’s Point Cemetery, Lower Barney's River.
