Obituary of Marie Hazel Smith
TRENTON – Hazel Marie (Horton) Smith, 81, Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, formerly of Trenton, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2013 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Eureka on September 30, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Hazel (Taylor) Horton. She and her late husband, Frank, lived in Trenton the majority of their married life, and in recent years, both resided in Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow. Marie was employed for many years with the former Goodman Company Limited, New Glasgow and Tanya’s Boutique, New Glasgow until retirement due to ill health. Marie enjoyed playing bingo and in later years, rarely missed a Thursday night Kinsmen Bingo. She was as avid bowler and a fantastic cook. During her lengthy illness, Marie demonstrated an amazing strength, never complaining, always concerned for others. She leaves a legacy of cheerfulness, dignity and grace.
Marie will be forever remembered by her loving son, Stephen (Michele), Trenton; sisters, Evelyn Sharp, Burlington, Ont.; Margaret “Margie” Webb, Scarborough, Ont.; Eva Schijns, Hopewell; brother, Robert “Bob” (Marie) Horton, Halifax; sister-in-law, Janet Horton, Bridgewater; brother-in-law, George Webb, Toronto, Ont.; many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Franklyn Alexander Smith; brother, Jack; infant sister, Wilma; brothers-in-law, Ted Campbell, Edward Schijns and Stuart Sharp.
There will be no visitation at Marie’s request. A private graveside service will be held in Foxbrook Cemetery, Hopewell, at a later date.
