Obituary of Vera Frances Jones

NEW GLASGOW/GUYSBOROUGH – Vera Frances Jones, 97, East River Manor, New Glasgow, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 27, 2014 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late Charles Spurgeon and Martha Olivia (Martell) Sterns. In 1939, Vera married Arthur Jones and for 48 years they resided in Guysborough. Following Arthur’s death in 1987, she moved to New Glasgow. Vera was a faithful member of First United Baptist Church, New Glasgow. She was a lady who possessed an enduring faith in her Lord. Surviving are her daughter, Bernice (Sandy) Tate, New Glasgow; sons, Gordon (Leona) Jones, Calgary, Alta.; Eric (Linda) Jones, Kentville; 15 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; a great, great-granddaughter; brother, Bruce (June) Sterns, Dartmouth; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Gordon Jones; siblings, Dorothy, Mildred, Helen, Eugene and Arthur; a great-grandson. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, August 29 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, August 30 in the chapel with Rev. Randy Stanton officiating. Public interment will follow at 3:30 p.m. in Evergreen Cemetery, Guysborough. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in Vera’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or Aberdeen Palliative Care Society.
