DUNMAGLASS/EGERTON - Hugh John “Hughie” MacGillivray, 80, Egerton formerly of Dunmaglass, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, March 25, 2015 in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, surrounded by his family. Born in Dunmaglass, he was a son of the late Collie and Martha (MacDonald) MacGillivray. He was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Lismore. At a very young age he became a Heavy Equipment Mechanic Forman for a number of years. He enjoyed being a Heavy Duty Mechanic, traveled all over Canada where he got the name patches. Hughie enjoyed fishing, hunting, flying and boating. He was a loving, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Agnes (Gallant); children, Debbie MacGillivray, Saint John, NB; Al MacGillivray, Dunmaglass; Hughie Duncan (Darrellene) MacGillivray, Saint John, NB; David (Dianne) MacGillivray, Saint John, NB; Carol (Gerard) MacDonald, Egerton; siblings, Coline; Donnie (Hazel); Denise (Jack) Golden; Maurine (Art) Carr; Fran Geogeon; Earl (Sandra); Jack (Fronce); Margo Delaney; Cathy (Barry) Smith; grandchildren; Michelle, Shawn, Elaine, Barry, Sanja, Mark and Adam; great- grandchildren: Samantha, Lacey, Ashley, Kennedy, Isabella and Chase. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sons, Michael, Mark; brothers, Ron and Phil. The family will receive visitors 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Sunday March 29, 2015 at P.&K. MacDonald funeral home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11a.m. Monday March 30, 2015 at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Lismore with Fr. Colin MacKinnon, presiding. Interment will be at a later date in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lismore. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in Hughie’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
