NEW GLASGOW – Graham Harival “Hal” Dobson, 76, New Glasgow, passed away peacefully, Sunday, December 27, 2020 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow with his wife by his side. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Alex Dobson and Silvie (Cameron) Smith. He played organized hockey since grammar school and was a member of the championship winning New Glasgow High School team. In 1962, he left for Toronto after receiving a tryout contract from the Toronto Maple Leafs, followed by an offer from an Ontario junior B league team. However, he returned home, graduated from New Glasgow High School in 1963 and studied at St. Mary’s University. Hal became an insurance agent and had been employed with Atlantic Insurance, New Glasgow for many years. He was a long-time member of the Bombers Club and Elk’s Lodge No. 226, New Glasgow. Hal was a dedicated volunteer with the Pictou County Christmas Fund and the original Christmas Daddies. Surviving are his wife, Noreen (Curley); son, Mark (Deseree) Dobson, Edmonton, Alta.; grandson, Tyler Dobson, Edmonton; brothers, Sandy (Cathy) Dobson, Merigomish; Don (Heather) Dobson, New Glasgow; Ward Dobson, Halifax; brother-in-law, Albert DeCoste, New Glasgow; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by mother, Silvie (Bob) Smith; father, Alex (Marion) Dobson; maternal grandmother, Nellie MacNeil; father and mother-in-law, Alfred and Agnes Curley; sister-in-law, Louise “Weezie” DeCoste; brother-in-law, Tom Curley. A private graveside service will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery, New Glasgow. If desired, donations in memory of Hal may be made to any charity of your choice.
