Obituary of Joseph Vincent Pettipas
NEW GLASGOW – Joseph Vincent “Vince” Pettipas, 80, New Glasgow, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at home, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Antigonish, he was a son of the late Michael Ephium and Anna Virginia (DeCoste) Pettipas. In his younger years, Vince apprenticed as a bricklayer and worked throughout the province after completing his training. In the 1970’s he felt the call of the open road and became a truck driver. Prior to retirement due to workplace accident, Vince had been employed with the former Maritime Steel and Foundries Ltd., New Glasgow. He was member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 34, New Glasgow for many years. Vince was an avid dart player, playing throughout the Maritimes with the New Glasgow and Stellarton Legion Dart teams. He was the most fun-loving person; enjoyed dancing, joking around and spending time with his canine pal, Hemi. Vince was a “one-of-a-kind” gentleman who will be forever loved and missed.
Surviving are his wife, Brenda (O’Connor); children, Joseph Vincent “Joey” Pettipas Jr., New Glasgow; Melissa Dewtie, Truro; stepsons, Michael (Kathryn) Willett, Halifax; Martin (Debby) Willett, Winnipeg, Man.; Myles (Jenn) Swain, Halifax; grandson, Joseph Vincent Pettipas, III, Toronto, Ont.; step-grandchildren, Spencer Cameron, Tyler Bannister, Taylor Briggs and Isabella Willett; siblings, Anna White, Pomquet; Margie Smith, New Glasgow; Michael (Zelda) Pettipas, Truro; Doris (Cam) Munroe, Pictou; Florence (Denny) Malloy, Trenton; sister-in-law, Caroline Pettipas-O’Connor, New Glasgow; “like-sons”, George (Catherine) Rockey, New Glasgow; Sandy (Heather) Fraser, Linacy; “like-grandchildren”, Laura (Brad) Curley, New Glasgow; Matthew Jardine, Trenton.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by granddaughter, Liah Pettipas; siblings, Claire, Leo, Mary, Benny and James in infancy.
Vince’s family will celebrate his life privately.
