Obituary of Elizabeth Agnes Fraser

MERIGOMISH – Elizabeth Agnes Fraser, 88, Merigomish, passed away peacefully under the care of her niece Elizabeth Pyche and sister, Beatrice Smith on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 in Dartmouth. Daughter of Stanley and Christina Smith, Elizabeth was born and raised in Merigomish. She was a life long member of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Merigomish and an active member in the AMS Missionary Society as well as the Merigomish Cemetery Committee. Elizabeth was a devoted teacher with a passion for the care and education of children. She graduated from New Glasgow High School and Teachers College in Truro. She returned to Pictou County for her entire teaching career including at schools in Big Island, Woodfield, Little Harbour, Merigomish Consolidated, and Frank H. MacDonald Elementary. Elizabeth was an avid reader and a life long educator who touched the lives of many both in and out of the classroom. Always with an open door to visitors, she will be missed by her family, friends and her community. She is survived by sister, Beatrice Smith, Merigomish; niece, Elizabeth Pyche, Dartmouth; great-nephew, David MacGregor (Marilyn Keay), Dartmouth; great-nieces, Beatrice MacGregor (Gary Porter), Dartmouth; Kara MacGregor (Greg Hynes), Dartmouth; great-grand nieces, Chelsea MacGregor, Dartmouth; Danielle and Christina Porter, Dartmouth; nephew, Stanley Chapman (Gert), Antigonish; nieces, Mary Pyche, Dartmouth; Peggy Harris (Jim), O'Leary, PEI, and many other nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel Keith Fraser; sisters, Estella Olive Chapman, Margaret Jane Pyche, and Thelma, in infancy; niece, Jean Louise Nunn. The family will receive visitors 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Friday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church with Rev. Gail Johnson-Murdock officiating. Interment will be in Merigomish Cemetery. Donations may be made in her memory to St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church.
