Obituary of G. Graham Fraser

THORBURN – George Graham Fraser, 94, Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of Thorburn, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 22, 2019 in the Villa, surrounded by his family. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late James Harvey and Cecelia (Bain) Fraser. Prior to retirement, Graham had been employed with the Department of Mines, payroll department. He was a member of Union Presbyterian Church, Thorburn. Graham was a 70-year jewel and Meritorious Service jewel holder of Moore Lodge No. 17, IOOF, a Past Nobel Grand, Past Grand Musician and member of Cushing Encampment No. 10, Westville. Graham was an organist for many years throughout Pictou County, playing in many churches and other venues for events, services, funerals and weddings. He enjoyed spending time at the cottage in Egerton, most favourably, sitting on the shore watching the tide come in. Graham also enjoyed many enjoyable hours in his garden. He will be remembered as a patient, gentle man, who always had time for others. In Graham’s words, “if I had it all to do over again – I would”. He dearly loved his five children. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Lorraine Fraser, Thorburn; daughter, Ruth Anne Ryan, Fort McMurray, Alta./MacPherson’s Mills; Thomas Fraser, Sutherland’s River; Vaughn Fraser, St. Martins, N.B.; Eric Fraser, Greenwood; Graham (Elizabeth) MacLean, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Timmie, Teddi, Gloria, Zach, Callie, Brandi (Chris), Scott (Shauna), Gregory (Carolyn) and Stephen (Karla); great-granddaughters, Georgia Dawn, Olivia, Lily and Marley. Besides his parent, he was predeceased by sister, Ruth Nesman; brothers, Bain in infancy, Doug and Bert; son-in-law, John Ryan. The family will receive visitors 10-10:50 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Interment will be in Thorburn Cemetery. The Fraser family wish to thank the wonderful Valley View Villa staff for the excellent care Graham received, making the Villa his home.
