Obituary of Dorothy Evelyn Sutherland
NEW GLASGOW – Dorothy Evelyn “Dot” Sutherland, 94,Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, passed away Thursday,February 20, 2014 in the manor, eight days before her 95th birthday.
Born in Buffalo, New York, she was a daughter of the late Stewart Harry and Irene Charlotte (Harris) West. In earlier years, Dorothy had been employed with Quality Cleaners and Bagnell’s Cleaners, New Glasgow. Prior to retirement, she was employed with Sunset Haven Rest Home, New Glasgow for a number of years. She was a member of Springville Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir for many years. Dorothy was a life member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 28, Ladies Auxiliary, Stellarton. She was a generous lady who enjoyed baking for her family and others. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, she will be missed by all that loved her.
Surviving are her daughter, Evelyn (Fred) Perry, Springville; sons, Hugh (Florence), Springville; Hector, Riverton; sister, Audrey Facey, Monastery; brothers, Robert (Shirley), Peterborough, Ont.; Ronald (Elsa), Port Bickerton; sister-in-law, Ella West, Calgary, Alta.; granddaughters: Gayle (Jay) Lockhart, Poplar Hill; Crystal (Kevin) Kinnaird, Springville; Darlene (Jimmy) Asprey, St. Albert, Alta.; Kate MacPhee, Westville; grandson, Mark (Brenda) Crossan, St. Albert.; numerous great-grandchildren; great-great-grandson, Cooper; many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, David William Sutherland; son, Stanley; sister, Elaine MacHardy; brother, Art; daughter-in-law, Florence.
In keeping with Dorothy’s wishes there will be no visitation. A private service will be held.
