Obituary of Annie Stewart Currie

HOPEWELL – Annie Stewart “Babs” Currie, Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of Hopewell, passed away peacefully, in her 108th year, on January 8, 2020 in the Villa. Born on March 21, 1912 in Leith, Edinburgh 6, Scotland, she was the eldest born to Angus and Annie Wix (Adam) Macpherson. She was a trained milliner and enjoyed working with hats. During the Second World War she worked in the local Post Office and volunteered as a spotter with the Air Raid Precaution Center. In 1945 she married a young Canadian soldier, Allan Currie and following the birth of their daughter, immigrated to Canada, where the family settled in Nipawin, Sask. Five years later, they moved to McLennan, Alta., and seven years later, to Hopewell. Babs was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Hopewell where she taught Sunday School for several years, and was secretary of the Louella Crockett AMS for 21 years. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 137 Ladies Auxiliary, Hopewell, where she has served as secretary for 30 years. Babs enjoyed reading, sewing, oil painting and completing crossword puzzles. She will be dearly missed by those she loved. Surviving are daughter, Winifred (William) Cameron, Trafalgar; son John, Hopewell; granddaughters, Alison (Neil) Reaume, Ottawa, Ont.; Heather (Ryan) Thomson, Rocklin; Jona Currie, Hopewell; Meghan Currie, New Glasgow; great grandchildren, Veronica, Evan, Liam, Jack, Ainsley and Lilly; chosen brother, Nelson (Mary) Ferguson, Dartmouth; numerous nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Margaret Macpherson, Dartmouth; Marion Currie, Fort Qu’Appelle, Sask. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, George Allan Currie; sisters, Winifred George and Ruth Ferguson; brothers, Angus, John and Harold Macpherson; daughter-in-law Karen Currie. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday, January 11th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, January 12th in First Presbyterian Church, Hopewell with Rev. Bonnie Langille officiating. Private interment will be in Hopewell Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Hopewell, or Hopewell Cemetery Company. The Currie family wish to thank the Valley View Villa second floor staff for the excellent care they provided to Babs. Their dedication, care, compassion and love was exceptional.
