Obituary of Donald Edison Stewart

NEW GLASGOW – Donald Edison Stewart, 76, New Glasgow, formerly of Greenwood, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2013 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by his family. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Edison and Annie Celeste (Doucette) Stewart. Donald spent his childhood and raised his family in Greenwood, moving to New Glasgow in 1984. Prior to retirement in 1992, he had been employed with Michelin Tire, Granton, since 1971. Donald enjoyed retirement, where he treasured time spent with family and friends. He enjoyed going for drives throughout the countryside. Donald was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, E. Jean (Russell); daughter, Darlene Mason, New Glasgow; sons, Russell (Veronique), New Glasgow; Kenny (Doreen), Greenwood; Greg (Joanne), Coalburn; Eric (Joyce), Courtice, Ont.; Stephen (Angela), Toronto, Ont.; Jamie (Cheryl), Westville; sister, Lois (Ronnie) MacDonald, Ontario; sisters-in-law, Mary Stewart, Sylvester; Sadie Stewart, Greenwood; Joyce (George) McKarney, New Glasgow; brother-in-law, Jack (Judy) Russell, Pictou; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Irene Stewart, Joan Arnold and Frances MacKenzie; brothers, Robert and Raymond. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday October 19 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson presiding. Interment will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Family flowers only.
