Obituary of Melvin Ross Cameron
LINACY/NEW GLASGOW – Melvin Ross “Mel” Cameron, 84, New Glasgow and Linacy, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, February 2, 2021 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late William Halver “Bill” and Annie Ellen (Wallace) Cameron. Mel worked since a young age, having been employed in steel fabricating, heavy equipment repair, machining, demolition, logging and trucking. He was a hard working man who loved his family dearly.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Betty; daughters, Kathy (Clyde) Dinham, New Glasgow; Marsha (Adam) Burden, Edmonton, Alta.; Wendy (Dennis) Vienneau, Plymouth; Wanda Cameron, New Glasgow; son, Roddie (Bertha) Cameron, Linacy/Stellarton; grandchildren, Rachael, Ricky, Bruce, Gary and Jeff; great-grandsons, Justin and Crew; great, great-granddaughter, Olivia; sister, June Kureth, Milan, Michigan; brothers, Robert “Sonny” Cameron, New Glasgow; Weldon “Weddy” (Valerie) Cameron, Middleburg, Fla.; brother-in-law, Harvey (Shirley) Mitchell, Trenton; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister-in-law, Dorothy “Dolly” Cameron; brother-in-law, Elwood Kureth, Sr.; nephew, Elwood Kureth, Jr.; father and mother-in-law, Harvey and Lucy (Murray) Mitchell.
A private funeral service will be held with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating.
Mel’s family wish to thank his family physician, Dr. Gregor MacLean, oncologist, Dr. Erin Morgan, Dr. Patricia Craig and the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit and the Pictou County Victorian Order of Nurses for the wonderful care he received.
