Obituary of John Edgar Turpin

STELLARTON – John Edgar Turpin, 66, Stellarton, formerly of Blue Mountain and Halifax, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 10, 2013 at home, surrounded by his family. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late John Joseph and Eva Martha (Hillier) Turpin. Prior to retirement in 1989, he was employed as a rigger with DND Dockyard, Halifax and in earlier years had been employed with Ben’s Bakery and Statistics Canada. During his retirement, he chose to work with Convergys, New Glasgow. John lived and believed - “love is the greatest gift”. Citing the timeless words of the Church, “Life has changed; not ended!” John’s final words were, “I love you and I will see you on the other side”. Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Katherine “Kathy” (MacLeod); daughters, Pamela (Farley) Schapira, Markham, Ont.; Yvette (Robert) Blakeney, Stellarton; granddaughters, Amanda, Stacey and Penny; grandson, Jayden; great-granddaughter, Rachael; sister, Mae (Robert) Nix, Halifax; brother, Donald Turpin, Ontario; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In keeping with John’s wishes there will be no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Thursday in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton with Father Peter MacDonald presiding. No flowers by request. Donations may be made in John’s memory to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society or Pictou County Victorian Order of Nurses. (click on link to donate online now)
