Obituary of Douglas Vernon Eisan
NEW GLASGOW – Douglas Vernon Eisan Sr., 87, Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, formerly of Trenton, passed away Friday, February 5, 2010, surrounded by family in the manor.
Born on September 13, 1922 in Halifax, he was a son of the late Lewis Eisan and Gertrude (Hargreaves) (Eisan) Laffin. He had been a Commercial Traveller for many years, retiring from Maritime Auto, New Glasgow in 1988. He was actively involved with the former St. Augustine’s Anglican Church, Trenton where he had served as lay reader and choir member. Doug was a Past President and Past Treasurer of the Steeltown Friendly Group, Trenton and a former Associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 34, New Glasgow where he was a member of the mixed dart league. He enjoyed bowling, traveling, and singing. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and referred to his Black Brook camp as his “home away from home”. Prior to ill health, he greatly enjoyed his early morning coffee with friends. Doug was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle, who cherished time spent with family.
Surviving are his sons, Douglas Jr. “Dougie” and Phillip (Peggy), New Glasgow; Lloyd (Jamie), Trenton; grandchildren, Derek (Amy) and daughters, Breanna and Natalie; Leslie (Mitchel), and daughter, Hailie; step-sister, Marion Higdon, Spryfield; half-brother, Donald Laffin, New Glasgow; nieces, Juanita Koszkulics, Little Harbour; Paula Richards, Trenton; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Bernice Irene (Martell), whom he sadly missed; son, Lewis in infancy; step-father, Bertram Laffin; step-sister, Ethel Avery; step-brother, Earl Laffin.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation at Doug’s request. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow with Archdeacon Peter Armstrong officiating. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery at a later date.
