Craig, my heart hurts so much because you are gone. The very first moment I laid eyes on you, I loved you. You were one of very few people in my life who was definitively a kindred spirit. On that first day of our friendship, you came into the GCRDA to tell me why YOU were going to be my right-hand man for researching and writing the Get out in Guysborough County guidebook. Your twinkling eyes, calm demeanor, leather chaps and ponytail made me believe you. Over the six months we spent hiking the hikes, and paddling the waterways, I grew to deeply respect you because of your innate kindness, your vision, your ability to connect with any person, anywhere, anytime. I admired you for being a true renaissance man. The memories I hold are a beautiful mixture of having long chats about serious topics, dreams and beliefs, and events in our time together that still make me laugh aloud. This past week I have thought about you nearly constantly. I’ve re-read our book. I’ve shared stories with anyone who would listen. Stories like the time you fell arse over teakettle out of your chair in our little office, and the first time you ever took out your front teeth for me, or the time we were hungry and we ate in a little restaurant in Canso and all you had to wear was your one piece wetsuit. I could tell stories all day...I learned that from you. Craig, you are gone far too soon. You will ALWAYS be a part of me. You will always be in my heart. Now, you are the northern lights, you are sparkling phosphorescence in a dark ocean. You are the light. You have always been the light. Xo

Susan, I was so shocked and saddened hearing the news of Craig’s sudden passing. When I was growing up Craig lived across the street. He was a great guy and he always made me laugh. I loved hearing his stories and the knowledge he shared. He truly will be missed by everyone. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Love and hugs, Jan, Sharma & Bryan

Sue, Alisha and I were shocked when we got the call. I remember our lives growing up and then every time I had the opportunity to get back for a visit over the past 43 years, he was always interested in my travels overseas and he loved to reminisce and would start on one of his stories, which you know were never the short versions. His gregarious nature and genuine concern for others was always at the forefront. Our hearts go out to you as well as our prayers and condolences as you work through the most difficult of times. He was taken far to early, and Alisha and I wish we could be there with you.
