Obituary of Matilda Leona Ouellette
HILLSIDE – Matilda Leona “Tillie” Ouellette, 89, Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of Hillside, passed away peacefully, Sunday, August 16, 2020 in the Villa.
Born in Durells Island, she was a daughter of the late Roland Edward and Elizabeth Margaret (Ryder) George. She was a member of the former St. Augustine’s Anglican Church, Trenton. Tillie was affectionally called “nana” by everyone who knew her. She was always “doing something”. Tillie was an avid bowler, gardener and was an accomplished landscape painter. She was “full of life” and possessed a wonderful sense of humour. Tillie was a social butterfly and loved being with people. She greatly enjoyed fishing and camping with her family. Most important to Tilly was her family, to whom she devoted her life.
Surviving are her daughters, Leona Fitt, Plymouth; Lillian (David) Gerrior, Hillside; Mary Ouellette, Westville; Rose Marie (David) Ryan, Churchville; Jenny (Sandy) Haggart, Thorburn; Jean (Martin) Pitts, Lovat; Cathy Fogarty, Hillside; son, William “Billy” Ouellette (Sherri), Pictou; sister, Elsie David, Canso; brother, Freddy George, Green’s Point; 19 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; seven great, great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, William Joseph “Bill” Ouellette; chosen daughter, Kay George; grandchildren, Shayna Paschal and John Joseph Fitt; sisters, Mary Landry, Rose Mason, Emma Feltmate and Jessie Dort; brothers, Gibby, Lawrence, Coleman and Clarence George; sons-in-law, Edward Fitt and Howard Á Hearn.
Her family will celebrate her life privately with interment in Hillside Cemetery.
