Obituary of Edward Joseph Petrowski
FRENCH RIVER - Edward Joseph “Ed” Petrowski, 83, French River, formerly of Manitoba, passed away peacefully, Sunday, December 1, 2019 in the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit with his family by his side.
Born on September 15,1936 in Vita, Manitoba, he was a son of the late Joe and Frances (Piotrowska) Petrowski. Ed resided in Vita until his teenage years when his family moved to Selkirk Avenue, Winnipeg, Man. At the age of 18 he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy and while stationed in Nova Scotia met his beloved wife, Lola. Ed enjoyed his time at sea where he learned to play the guitar and developed a love of singing which lasted throughout his life. Upon retirement from the forces, he moved with his family to Woodlands, Man., where his passion for playing guitar and singing became public as he formed his own band. He was most happy playing music for others to hear. His friend, Art Butler, introduced him to horses – and if he wasn’t playing music, he was riding horses. Ed’s love for chocolate was most noticeable at Easter, when his children would receive their chocolate Easter bunnies without their ears. After retirement and their children had grown, Ed and Lola moved to Tolstoi, Man., where he developed a passion for woodworking, spending many hours in his shop – “staying out of mom’s hair”. He was grateful for the opportunity to introduce and teach his hobbies to his grandchildren. Ed’s family will always remember the love he gave them and how they will always love him. “Dad, your memories will live on through the stories your children will tell of you and the good times we shared!”
Surviving are his children, Cindy (Phil), Scott (Annette), James (Lorie) and Lisa (Blair); numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Clare Hunter; brother, Bob Petrowski; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Lola (Kelland) Petrowski; step-mother, Simone Petrowski; sister-in-law, Norma (Adkins) Petrowski; brother-in-law, Robert Hunter.
In honour of Ed’s wishes, his family will celebrate his life privately.
