NEW GLASGOW - Garry Merchant, 62, New Glasgow, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2013 in the Aberdeen Hospital, surrounded by his family. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of Ron (Joyce) Merchant, Trenton and the late Gwen (Meredith) Merchant. Garry retired from Michelin Tire, Granton with over 30 years of service. He enjoyed music, dancing and studying Second World War history. Garry was a loving son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. Surviving besides his father, are sister, Susan Merchant, Dartmouth; sister-in-law, Joyce Merchant, Dartmouth; stepsisters, Dr. Sherri Coldwell (Doug Nickerson), Yarmouth; Kandy (Laurie) Clyburne, Rocky Mountain; stepbrothers, Robbie Coldwell (Gail Voutour), Trenton; Barry Coldwell, Toronto, Ont.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; close friends, Sonny, Louise and Vernon. Besides his mother, he was predeceased by his brother, Dr. Nigel Merchant. There will be no visitation at Garry’s request. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24th in LHM Family Worship Centre, New Glasgow with Pastor Gordon Wheeler officiating. Interment will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens, Sylvester at a later date. Donations may be made in Garry’s Memory to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society.
