Obituary of Eleanor Mae MacDonald

THORBURN - Eleanor Mae MacDonald, 78, Thorburn went home to be with her Lord and Saviour, Tuesday June 18, 2013 surrounded by her family in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Yarmouth, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Dortt and Hazel Lillian (Smith) Duncan. She was a member of Freedom Bible Church, Sutherlands River and the 55 Plus Club, New Glasgow. In earlier years she was with the RCAF from 1954-1959 as a supply tech. Eleanor enjoyed oil painting, taking long drives through the country and music. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Ralph MacDonald; daughters, Karen (Donnie) Rhyno, Brookville Rd; Nadine MacDonald, Cole Harbour; son, Mark (Jennifer) MacDonald, Bridgeville; sister, June (Duncan) Gidney, Digby Neck; brothers, Robert “Bob” Duncan, Kingston, Ont; Jim Duncan, Florida; grandchildren, Candyce, Benjamin, Andrew, Caleb and Zackary; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents she was predeceased by a sister, Hazel Rathbone; brother, Richard “Dickie” Duncan. The family will receive visitors 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow, from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel with Pastor, Alan Klein, officiating. Interment will follow in Castle Hill Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in Eleanor’s memory to any charity of your choice.
