Obituary of John Joseph Cornett

STELLARTON – John Joseph Cornett, 86, Stellarton, passed away, Thursday, December 25, 2008 at home. Born in MacLellan’s Mountain, he was the son of the late Frank Lewis and Hilda Mae (Hefferman) Cornett. He had been a coal miner, having worked in the former MacGregor Mine, McBain Mine and as a truck driver with the Allen Shaft wash plant. He was a member of Christ Church, Stellarton. John enjoyed hunting and fishing at his cottage at Lochaber Lake. Surviving are his wife of years, Florence Amelia (Cameron); daughter, Paulette “Polly” (Donnie) MacAuley, Stellarton; sons, John H. (Linda), Riverton; Gerald “Jerry”, at home; four half-sisters; five half-brothers; fiver grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 5 great, great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Arthur; a brother in infancy; a half-sister; three half-brothers. The family will receive visitors 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Sunday, December 28th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday in Christ Church with Rev. Aidan Kingsbury officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in his memory to any charity of choice.
