Obituary of Martha June MacDonald

BAILEY’S BROOK – MacDonald, Martha “June”, 65, of Bailey’s Brook, Pictou Coutny, passed away Sunday, January 2nd, 2011 at the St. Martha’s Hospital, Antigonish. Born in Antigonish, June was a daughter of the late William and Agnes (Farrell) Feltmate. June was an educator for 31 years starting in Antigonish schools, principal at Merigomish and finishing her career at Frank H. MacDonald Elementary School in Sutherland’s River. She was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Lismore and a member of the St. Mary’s Alter Society. June was a founding member of Karen Lynn MacDonald Allergy Awareness Society, Lismore Winter Time Review and Community Yearbook. She was active with many organizations including the Eco Awareness Society, Retired Teachers Association and the Red Hat Society. June was an exceptionally loving person who enjoyed spending time with her family. Surviving are her husband, Roderick “Rod”; son, Ronnie (Helen) Farrell, Barney’s River; daughters, Theresa MacLeod, Moncton; Catherine MacDonald, Ottawa; son-in-law, Sheldon MacLeod, Moncton; she was especially proud of her grandchildren Sarah Farrell (Josh Fraser), Jeanne Farrell, Anthony, Christine, Graeme MacLeod; great grandson, Nathan; sisters, Kaye Venedam, Pomquet; Hilda Gottschall, Antigonish; Loretta Welsh, Antigonish; Shirley (Billy) MacGillvary, MacArra’s Brook; brother, William “Billy” (Marie) Feltmate, St. Andrew’s, Antigonish County; sisters-in-law, Gwen and Mable, Antigonish. Also survived by the MacDonald family; mother-in-law, Agnes MacDonald, Antigonish; Lewis (Catherine), Bill (Suzanne), Mary Simpson (Roy), Francis, Doug (Donna), Marg (Ian Rhyno), numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. June was predeceased by sisters, Pearl Melanson and Ann Halley; brothers, Maurice and John Feltmate; father-in-law, John “Lewis” MacDonald. The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Wednesday in Lismore and District Community Centre, Lismore. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Thursday from St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church with Father Colin presiding. Burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in June’s memory to Karen Lynn MacDonald Allergy Awareness Society.
