Obituary of Doris C. Arbuckle-Thompson

PONDS, MERIGOMISH - Doris C. Arbuckle-Thompson, 93, Ponds, Merigomish, passed away peacefully, Friday, February 7, 2020 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow surrounded by her loving family. Born at The Ponds, she was a daughter of the late Alexander Robert and Lucy (Dearn) Murdock. In earlier years Doris was employed by the Children’s Aid Society, Lismore Seafoods and before retiring, was the last House Mother at the former Aberdeen School of Nursing, New Glasgow. She was a member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Merigomish. Doris will always be remembered as a lady with a great love for her family and friends, and one who lived her life with grace, beauty, and style. Surviving are her children, Eric Arbuckle (Darrell), New Glasgow; Wendell (Stephanie) Arbuckle, Stellarton; Lionel (Cathy) Arbuckle, Fox Brook; Vickie MacDonald (Marilyn), Ponds; Merton (Patsy) Arbuckle, MacLellan’s Brook Road; Charlene (Phillip) Lalande, Owen Sound, Ont.; Connie Clark, Thorburn; Todd Arbuckle, Ponds; “The lights of Gramma Doris’ life”, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Ivor, Jennifer, Ryan, Kristopher, Angela, Nicholas, Jake, Jonah, Tyler, Lauren, Candace, Brett, Christena, Marcus, Veronika, Caroline, Nathanial, Abigail, Hannah, Ethan, Levi, Judah, Carman, Jordy, Eliot, Olivia, Charlie, Kashel, Spencer, Kate, Abigayle and Shealynn; brothers, Sammy Murdock and Jackie Murdock, Ponds; sister-in-law, Phyllis Murdock, Ponds; step-sons, Reginald “Reggie” (Jill) Thompson, Stratford, P.E.I.; Timothy “Timmy” (Marjorie) Thompson, Egerton; Kevin (Lois) Thompson, Ponds; Bryce (Donna) Thompson, Woodburn; Ivan (Alison) Thompson, Trenton; Foster (Sandra) Thompson, Avondale; numerous step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Charles Edward Arbuckle; second husband, Gerald Alan Thompson; stepson, Edward Arbuckle; sisters, Aleta Murray, Anna Mae Nicholson, Loretta Arbuckle, Norma Mingo; brothers, Harry, Jamie, Leroy, Arthur, Stewart and Kenny Murdock. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, February 10th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 11th in St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Merigomish with Rev. Gail Johnson-Murdock officiating. Private interment will be in Murray’s Point Cemetery. Family flowers only. If desired, donations may be made in memory of Doris to the Murray’s Point Cemetery Fund, Pictou County Victorian Order of Nurses or Aberdeen Palliative Care Society.
