Obituary of Donald MacGillivray Murray
THORBURN – Donald MacGillivray “Twister” Murray, 67, Thorburn, passed away Friday, May 30, 2014.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Frederick James and Catherine Isabel (Sutherland) Murray. Donald was a self-employed woodsman and was a firewood supplier throughout Pictou County for the past 18 years. Previously, Donald was employed through the construction labor pool. He enjoyed playing guitar and listening to “old school” country music. Donald enjoyed spending time with his feline friends: Cuddles, Calico, Jackson and Corbett. His dog, Bella, was a constant companion.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Joyce Esther (Stewart); daughters, Connie Murray, Pictou; Cathy (Barry) Hayman, Thorburn; son, Pete (Colleen) Murray, Thorburn; grandchildren, T.J. and Tommy Hayman, Brandon and Maddie Scanlan, Savanna Murray; brother, Dell (Lottie) Murray, New Glasgow; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 4 in Thorburn Cemetery with Rev. Gail Johnson-Murdock officiating.
