Obituary of Martha Ann Doyle
LISMORE – Martha Ann Doyle, 75, Lismore, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2012 in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish, surrounded by her family.
Born in Pomquet, she was a daughter of the late Wallace and Mary Jane (Broussard) D’eon. Martha began working for J.A. Doyle & Son Fisheries, Lismore, at the age of 16 and continued working at the Lismore factory for 48 years as a cook and seasonal plant worker. She was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Lismore. Martha was a “down-to-earth” lady who possessed great wit and humour. She expressed her Christian faith through love of family and acts of kindness to others. She enjoyed baking and was especially known for her fudge. Martha will be remembered for her cribbage playing, sewing and knitting projects. She cherished time spent with her daughters and their families.
Surviving are her daughters, Lily (Dave) DeYoung, Linacy; Jean (Ian) Robertson, Barney’s River; grandchildren, Elizabeth “Beth” (Blair), Jonathan, Warren (Melissa) and Emily; sisters, Stella (Francis) Doiron, Pomquet; Beatrice McGrath, Ottawa; step-sister, Genevieve McGinnis, Halifax; numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband, Warren Alfred Doyle; sisters, Johanna MacKenzie, Mary O'Brien, Isabelle Broussard; brothers, Charles, Francis, Joseph, Walter and Raymond; step-brother, John McGinnis.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 18th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 19th in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church with Father Colin MacKinnon presiding. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Family flowers only. Donations may be made in Martha’s memory to the Lung Association of Nova Scotia or Canadian Mental Health Association.
The family wish to express their sincere appreciation to the doctors, nurses and support staff at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital for their exceptional care of Martha during the past 18 months.
