Obituary of Douglas Ray O'Laney
NEW GLASGOW – Douglas Ray O’Laney, 77, Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow formerly of Laggan, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 23, 2008 in the Manor.
Born in Parrsboro, he was a son of the late Alexander and Eva Mae (Harrigan) O’Laney. Prior to retirement, he had been employed at Trenton Works. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Surviving are his wife, Emma (Gomm) O’Laney, New Glasgow; daughters, Theresa (Carl) MacLeod, Avondale; Doris (George) Simms, Kenzieville; Eva (Bob) Dean, Broadway; Faith (Roger) Manuel; Windsor, Ont.; Kathy (Roy) Rogers, Hamilton, Ont.; Denise (Eddie) Freeman, Trenton; Darlene (Clynt MacDonald), Truro; sons, Dan (Sharon) Praught, Lower Sackville; Dougie (Freda), Kenzieville; Bill (Jenny), Lower Barney’s River; David (Karen), Westville Road; Charlie (Patsy), MacLellan’s Brook; sister, Ruth Montague, Parrsboro; brother, Bernard “Bunny” (Ann), Moncton; 31 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by brother’s, Bouge, Joe, Renny and Faith; three grandchildren; a great-grandchild.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Saturday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday in the chapel with Rev. Aidan Kingsbury officiating. Cremation to follow.
Donations may be made in his memory to the Canadian Cancer Society. The family wishes to thank the staff of Glen Haven Manor for their care and kindness.
