Obituary of Edgar Frederick Hart

NEW GLASGOW – Edgar Frederick Hart, 67, New Glasgow, passed away suddenly, Wednesday, October 17, 2013. Born in Boylston, he was a son of the late Edgar Havelock and Florence Alice (Atkins) Hart. Edgar attended school in Boylston and Guysborough. He was employed as an orderly at the Aberdeen Hospital from 1965 -1974. Edgar was employed with Canada Post from 1974 – 2004, retiring as Lead Hand. During his career, he was awarded the Gold Postmark Award, the highest award presented by Canada Post. Edgar owned and operated Foxhall Flowers, New Glasgow for several years. After retirement, he was employed with The Evening News on a part-time basis. Edgar had managed the Pictou-North Colchester Exhibition for six years and was a member of the Pictou County Light Horse Club. He served as chairman for several horse shows and was known for showing road hack and pleasure horse. He greatly enjoyed gardening and was well-known for growing hybrid tea roses. Edgar spoke to many garden clubs throughout Northern Nova Scotia. He was a member of Albion Lodge, No. 5, A.F. & A. M., New Glasgow. Throughout his life, Edgar traveled extensively across Canada, Europe and the British Isles. In recent years, he was always accompanied by his dog, Tas. Surviving are sister, Elva (Charles) Towel, Kentville; brother, Glen, Toronto; niece, Carolyn; nephew, Glen; an aunt, uncle and several cousins. A public graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25 in Boylston United Church Cemetery with Rev. Heather Manuel officiating. Family flowers only.
