Obituary of John Edward Sheehan
FRASER’S MOUNTAIN – John Edward Sheehan, 59, Fraser’s Mountain, passed away Monday, February 13, 2012 in the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit, New Glasgow, surrounded by his family.
Born in Antigonish, he was a son of Betty (MacMillan) Sheehan, Fraser’s Mountain and the late Dan Edward Sheehan. He attended the former St. John’s Academy, New Glasgow High School and graduated with his Bachelor of Arts degree from St. F.X. University in 1976. John was an electrician and manager of D. E. Sheehan Electric Ltd., New Glasgow. He was a member St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow, where served as a choir member in the late 60’s. He was a member of the New Glasgow Elks Lodge No. 226 and Bomber’s Club, New Glasgow. John was an avid sports fan, having played fastball in the North End and goaltender with the former St. John’s Academy and New Glasgow Minor Hockey. He was an umpire in the Trenton Fastball League, tennis instructor with North End Recreation Centre and a member of the Stellar Curling Club, Stellarton. He was a sponsor of the Sheehan Electric Alpines Fastball team and was involved in Prostock racing. John was an avid New England Patriot and Toronto Maple Leaf fan. John was a loving son, husband, father, brother, grandfather and uncle.
Surviving besides his mother, Betty, are his wife of 26 years, Catherine “Cathy” Darlene MacDonald-Sheehan, Fraser’s Mountain; sons, George (Robyn) Leil, Linacy; Ryan (Kaylin) Leil, New Glasgow; sister, Marlene Sheehan, Black Point; brothers, Joe (Linda) Sheehan, Dan (Beverly) Sheehan, New Glasgow; grandchildren, Ryan and George Leil; niece, Julie; nephews, Jeffery, Daniel, Devin, Zack, Luke and Riley; numerous cousins.
Besides his father, he was predeceased by his granddaughter, Morgan Leil.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 17 in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church with Father Gary MacPherson presiding. Interment will be held at a later date. Family flowers only.
Donations may be made in John’s memory to the Aberdeen Health Foundation Palliative Care Unit Endowment.
