Obituary of George Randall Brittain

It is with great sadness that the Brittain family announces the passing of husband, father, grandpa and sibling, George Randall Brittain, who passed away peacefully on August 5, 2008. He was born on October 31, 1918 in Pleasant Lake, Yarmouth County, a son of the late George A. and Flora (Jeffery) Brittain. George greatly enjoyed the outdoors, and had frequent adventures with Juanita, searching for and photographing waterfalls and wildflowers, canoeing and camping. In his early years he was an avid hunter, angler and guide. After high school, George worked in the woods and then went overseas in the Second World War, serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force in Africa and India dropping supplies to Allied forces in Burma. George worked for the Department of Fisheries and Oceans until retirement in 1982. He was a member and Honorary Deacon of First United Baptist Church, New Glasgow, where he had served as Deacon. He had an unshakable faith in his Lord. He is survived by his best friend and wife of 59 years, Juanita (Pitman); beloved children, Randall (Wilma), Marianne (Darrel); grandchildren, Jeffrey, Juanita, Meredith and Ashley; siblings, Margaret, Mary, Barbara, Enid, Rev. Ross (Doris) and Elizabeth (Carl); many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Flora; siblings, Doris, Rev. William, Jack, Ruth and Anne. Visitation will be 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Friday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday in First United Baptist Church with Rev. Leo Fletcher and Lic. Mary Grace Webster officiating. Interment will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in George’s memory to First United Baptist Church Building Fund, the Pictou County V.O.N. or the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society.
