Obituary of Walter Neil MacLeod

HOPEWELL – Walter Neil MacLeod, 68, Hopewell, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 30, 2012. Born in Antigonish, he was a son of the late James Robert and Eva Mae (Arbuckle) MacLeod. He joined the Canadian Army in 1962 and served with Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, serving a tour in Germany. Prior to retirement in 2009, he had been employed with Chignecto-Central Regional School Board, having been employed previously with the Pictou District School Board. Neil enjoyed the outdoors, telling stories and making others happy. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Surviving are his loving wife of 46 years, Elizabeth Marion (Lovegrove); daughter, Marjorie McLeod, Hopewell; son, Calvin (Robyn), Trenton; grandchildren, Matthew, Joshua, Rebecca, Victoria, Alexis and Abigail; sisters, Edith Sangster, Piedmont; Kaye Cogswell, Toronto, Ont.; Phyllis (Elward) Anderson, Lower Barney’s River; Helen Marr, Ottawa, Ont.; brothers, James, Toronto, Ont.; Colin (Muriel), Ontario; Hector, Halifax; Ronnie (Sylvia), Ontario; Joe (Manuella), Ontario; Sandy, Regina, Sask.; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Madeline MacDonald, Aveon MacKenzie, Isabel Heidi and Myrtle Carr; brother, Bill. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 2 in the chapel with Rev. Ryan King officiating. Interment will be in Hopewell Cemetery.
