Obituary of Charles Mitchell Paris
PARIS, Charles Mitchell “Ian” Sr., 85, of New Glasgow, passed away peacefully Monday, August 15, 2011, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Rosie Paris. Ian worked for several years at Maritime Steel and the New Glasgow Foundries. He retired from the Town of New Glasgow Public Works with 35 years of service. Ian was a member of Second United Baptist Church, New Glasgow where he served as an usher, volunteered with the Hospital Visitation Committee, Shepherds Lunch Room and Scout Master for the Church. He loved to garden, fish and go camping. Ian was a friendly face to the people at the Co-op where he and his friends had coffee every day at 2 p.m.
Ian is survived by daughter, Ida Woo Shue, Halifax; sons, Reuben “Ted” (Kelly), London, ON; Charles (Joanne), Toronto; Dale (Sandy), New Glasgow; grandchildren, Kelli, Teresa, Lisa, Victoria, Melanie, Ryan, Sarah; sister, Florence, Toronto; great grandchildren, Aidan, Isaiah, Isla Minty, Jaylen; sister-in-law, Sweedlyn Cromwell, New Glasgow; sister, Florence Paris, Toronto; Sparky (Ruth) Paris, New Glasgow; Percy Paris, Halifax; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife, Normintreal “Minty” Jewell on Friday, August 12, 2011; son-in-law, Arnold Woo Shue and brother, Keith Paris.
The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Tuesday, August 16th in P & K MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 17th in First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Interment will follow in Brookside Cemetery, New Glasgow.
