Obituary of Warren James Murphy

MACLELLAN’S BROOK – Warren James Murphy, 69, MacLellan’s Brook, passed away, Thursday, August 1, 2019 at home surrounded by the love of family, and with his wife, Shelia, by his side. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late James Anthony and Jean Marie (MacNeil) Murphy. Warren was employed with Nova Scotia Power for over 30 years as a safety consultant, auditor and several other roles. He was a member of the former St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Thorburn. Warren was serving as treasurer for the St. Ann’s Cemetery Society. He was a member and past president of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 28, Stellarton and had served as captain of the Nova Scotia Power Dragon Boat Team for several years. Warren was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed playing crib, especially with his father-in-law, Mike Pettipas and good friend, Wayne Ross traveling to various Legions throughout Nova Scotia. For Warren, “life has changed; not ended!” Surviving are the love of his life and soulmate, his wife Sheila (Pettipas); his daughter, Edie Marie (Orry) Noel, Thorburn and their children, Regan and Shelby; step-daughter, Shalene (Lance) Munroe and their children, Caleb and Chloe, Thorburn; sisters, Kathleen (Aubrey) Bryan, Abercrombie; Joan (Bryce) Richardson, Stellarton; father and mother-in-law, Mike and Vera Pettipas, Thorburn; sister-in-law, Sharon Smith (John Eriksen), Alma; brother-in-law, Kevin Pettipas Thorburn; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brother, Jerry Murphy; sister-in-law Dot Murphy, Nephews Shawn Murphy and Bradley Richardson. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with Words of Remembrance at 8 p.m., Saturday, August 3rd in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Interment will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Thorburn at a later date. Due to severe allergies, please do not wear scented products if attending – thank you. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in Warren’s memory to the Victorian Order of Nurses, Pictou County Branch or Aberdeen Health Foundation Palliative Care Unit Endowment. The family would like to thank Dr. Gregor MacLean, all the VON nursing staff especially Dawn Ingaham and the Home Care providers for their excellent care they provided to Warren. Special thanks to our earth angel Rachel MacDonald RN, CHPCN Palliative Care Nurse. These girls were a blessing over the last few months and Dr. Suzanne Salsman and the staff of the ALS Clinic, Halifax.
