Obituary of Hector Neil MacKinnon

CENTRAL WEST RIVER – Hector Neil “Heck” MacKinnon, 79, Central West River, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2015 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by his family, after a brief illness. Born in Stellarton, he was a son of the late Charles Allan and Pauline Legine (Keddy) MacKinnon. Prior to retirement, Heck was employed with various companies, including the former Trenton Works and Maritime Steel. He was a welder, burner and had been a truck driver through his years. Heck was an avid ATV enthusiast and was the founding president of the first ATV Club in Nova Scotia, The Pictou County ATV Club. He assisted in building many of the ATV trails in Pictou County. Heck enjoyed the outdoors, ATV riding, hunting and spending time at his Garden of Eden camp. He loved his family and enjoyed a special relationship with his youngest granddaughter, Peyt. Heck will be greatly missed by all who loved him. Surviving are his daughter, Shaylene, at home; son, Hector “Dusty” (Romaine), Westville; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Charles (Mildred), Stellarton; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister, Katherine Hache; brothers, John and Joey. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 2 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 3 with Rev. Aidan Kingsbury officiating.
