Obituary of Norval John MacDonald
MERIGOMISH – Norval John MacDonald, 81, Merigomish, passed away Friday, September 21, 2007, in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by his family.
He was the son of the late Frank H. and Hazel (Blair) MacDonald. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Joyce (Murray); daughters, Linda (Nick) Williams, Barneys River; Jane (Donald) Robertson, Orangeville, Ont.; sons, Norval (Linda), Pictou; Steven, Liverpool; granddaughters, Sheri and Lauren; grandsons, Jason, Dale (Ellen), Nicholas, Blair and Matthew; brother, Harry (Adelaide); sister, Mildred MacDonald; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister, Marion Fulton. Norval worked in the family lumber business and general store in Merigomish for many years, then for the Pictou District School Board until his retirement. He was an active member of the Pictou County Amateur Radio Club, former boy scouts leader, volunteer at the Museum of Industry where he operated the model sawmill. He was a man that could turn his hand at anything.
His greatest achievement and what he was most proud of was his family. He was a dedicated, loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He will be deeply missed by all.
Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Monday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel with Mrs. Jessie Johnson officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Merigomish.
Donations may be made in his memory to the Riverview Cemetery Fund or Aberdeen Palliative Care Society.
