Arlene Jenkins

Obituary of Arlene Norma Jenkins

It is with great sadness that we the children of Arlene Norma Jenkins announce her passing on Saturday, August 24th, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. Mom had a short, yet courageous battle with cancer, which she took on with amazing grace and calm. She worked for many years in the family business Turn-A-Bout Catering and after leaving Nova Scotia, she returned to Ontario and spent several years at the University of Waterloo, working in food services. With the arrival of grandchildren, Mom returned so she could enjoy the fruits of being a grandparent, a role she embraced, and took great pride in. Family always was, and always would be, Mom's greatest joy. Her loving and giving nature was evident to all who were fortunate enough to have made her acquaintance and for those that were considered family. Mom brought a comfort that can not be described or ever duplicated. Her smile, kind words and embraces will be dearly missed but never forgotten. She will be sadly missed by her father, Clifford Beckley, Kitchener, Ont.; her children, Kim Jenkins-Billick (Todd) Linacy; Barbie Jenkins (Travis MacLean) Egerton; Brad Jenkins (Lori-Anna "Star"), Egerton; grandchildren, Kayla and Michelle MacLean and Myles Jenkins, all of Egerton; sisters, Glenda Lisso (Doug), Waterloo, Ont.; Noreen Grainger (John) Mississauga, Ont.; This list would not be complete if we did not mention Mom's best friends, Beulah Martell, Patsy Huggan, Marie Cameron and Mom’s chosen daughter and grandson, Cassandra and Max Martell. She loved you all as if you were her own family. Mom will also be dearly missed by her many friends and her constant companions, "furbabies," Lilly and Dexter, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother, Mary Beckley; ex-husband, Bruce Jenkins; brother, William “Bill” Vasil. The family would like to thank the following: First and foremost, the Palliative Care team at the Aberdeen Hospital, Dr. Farrell; Nurses, Rhonda and Debbie; and ALL nurses, you will forever be remembered as "Angels" that walk among us. We so appreciate everything you did for Mom, from home visits, to your care for her while in the unit, to your care of "her" family, you all are amazing. Thank You! Her family doctor, Bashar Jazrawi; VON Nurses; The whole gang at Autumn Crest Senior Apartments, your warmth and generosity were very much appreciated. There will be no formal visitation or funeral service as per Mom’s request, and as Mom’s last gift, she donated her body to Dalhousie Medical Science. Donations may be made in her memory to the Aberdeen Health Foundation Palliative Care Unit Endowment, Pictou County SPCA or the Canadian Red Cross. (Click on link to donate online)
