Obituary of Dorothy Day Williams

WILLIAMS - Dorothy Day “Dot”, age 92, Barney’s River, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at home, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Lower Barney’s River, she was a daughter of the late Charlotte “Lottie” (Arbuckle) and Cameron Murdock. She was a faithful member of the Barney’s River Presbyterian Church, Kenzieville, where she served as a member of the Ladies Aid and the Atlantic Mission Society. She was also a member of the U.C.T Pictonian Council No. 879, New Glasgow; The Eastern Star where she was a 60 year jewel holder; The Golden Link Rebecca Lodge where she was a 50 year jewel holder. Dorothy’s lifelong passion was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed travelling with Lawrence to many destinations, in particular Florida where they spent many enjoyable winters with family and friends. She possessed the gift of hospitality and her door was always open to share laughter, good food and great card games. A fisherman’s daughter, Dorothy was the last surviving member of 11 children. Surviving are her daughters, Wendy (Robert) Ross, Barney’s River; Shelley (Lawrence) MacDonald, Avondale; sons, Eric (Jean), Cameron (Colene), Barney’s River; daughter-in-law, Janice Williams, Egerton; sisters-in-law, Emily Donnelly, The Ponds; Margaret Fraser, New Glasgow; Adell Keays, Moncton; Mary Murdock, New Glasgow; brothers-in-law, Gerald and Elmer, Barney’s River; grandchildren, Cara (Chris) Stewart, Joel Williams, Alana (Steven) Mason, Adam (Carla) Williams, Andrew (Christine) Williams, Elisabeth Williams (Marc Bildstein), Lindsay (Gary) Mahar, Matthew (Sara) Williams, Mark (Marie) Ross, Kristi Chisholm, Megan Ross (Brad Bell), Tyler Ross (Natalie Gillis), Lorenne (Nick) Olding, Brandon MacDonald (Alexis Christie) and Kelsey MacDonald; 17 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Sydney Williams; son, L. Gary Williams; grandson, Jonathan Williams; sisters, Anna Mason, Esther MacGillivray, Thelma Sweet, Lorraine and Ruth Murdock; brothers, George "Dick", Russell, Calvin, Alfred and Grant. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday Jan 30 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday Jan 31 in Barney’s River Presbyterian Church, Kenzieville with Rev. Dr. J. Kenneth MacLeod officiating. Interment will be in Glen Bard Cemetery at a later date. Family flowers only.
