Obituary of Jessie Verna Mitchell

NEW GLASGOW – Jessie Verna Mitchell, 90, Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, formerly of Sunny Brae and New Glasgow, passed away on Thursday February 7, 2019 in the Manor. Born in Sunny Brae, she was the daughter of the late John James and Annie Belle (MacInnis) Anderson and the last surviving member of her immediate family. Verna was a secretary with the Nova Scotia Department of Education for most of her career. She was a faithful member of Calvin Presbyterian Church, Sunny Brae and enjoyed country and gospel music, travel and dancing. Verna possessed a generous heart and tremendous sense of humour. She will be greatly missed by those she loved. Verna is survived by several nieces and nephews and many dear friends. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Burns “Bud” Mitchell; brothers, Raymond (Anne), Elmer (Jean), Aubrey (Mildred) and Elston (Marion). In honor of Verna’s wishes, a graveside service will be held 4 p.m. Friday, June 21st in Sunny Brae Cemetery with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating. A reception will follow in First Presbyterian Church Hall, Stellarton. Donations may be made in Verna’s memory to Calvin Presbyterian Church, Sunny Brae.
