Obituary of Gertrude Jean Geldart

LOCH BROOM LOOP – Gertrude Jean “Gertie” Geldart, 84, Loch Broom Loop, passed away Friday, March 30, 2012 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Pleasant Bay, Cape Breton, she was a daughter of the late Angus William and Sadye Mae (MacIntosh) Moore. She was a member of the United Church of Canada. Gertie spent the majority of her life as a homemaker, working outside the home for brief intervals, cooking, sewing and in temporary positions. A proficient cook and entertainer, she greatly enjoyed having family and friends visit her home. She spent many enjoyable hours crocheting and watching NASCAR racing. Gertie enjoyed nature, tending her flower gardens and looking after her pets. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Surviving are her sons, Dale Wilkie, Lincoln, N.B.; Brent (Wendy) Geldart, Fall River; daughters, Susan (Eric) Wynes, Brampton, Ont.; Brenda (Hank) Trentleman, Sunny Brae; 18 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Rettie M. Geldart; son, Wayne Geldart; brothers, Frank and Harold Moore. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, April 1st in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, April 2nd in the chapel with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Interment will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Gertie’s family wish to express their appreciation to the Dexter Construction Company for the concern demonstrated for mom’s wellbeing over the years. Thank you to caregivers, Debbie, Tracy and Stacy for the excellent care they provided. Thank you to Jim, Mary, Gordie and Shawna Chenell, for their enduring friendship and care for mom throughout the years. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in Gertie’s memory to the IWK Health Centre Foundation.
