Obituary of James Daniel Chisholm
LOWER BARNEY’S RIVER - James Daniel “Jim” Chisholm, 59, Lower Barney’s River passed away Sunday, October 3, 2010 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late James Alexander and Florence (Phalen) Chisholm. He was a member of St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church, Egerton and had served on Parish Council. In earlier years , he had served with the Canadian Army and had worked for several years in Toronto. He had been employed as a welder with the former Trenton Works and the Halifax Shipyards. Jim was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 1667 and the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 34, New Glasgow. He was a member of the Merigomish Fire Hall Dart League and the New Glasgow Legion Dart League, an avid player, he played in many tournaments. Jim enjoyed helping others and had volunteered with the Pictou County Helpline. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, spending time at Big Island Beach reading Louis L’amor and watching his favourite hockey team, the Toronto Maple Leafs. For the past five years he and his canine friend, Buddy were inseparable. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
Surviving are daughters, Belinda (David) O’Connor, The Ponds; Penny Chisholm (Allan Francis), Fredericton, N.B.; son, Jim Chisholm, Lower Barney’s River; sisters, Linda Chisholm (David MacLean), New Glasgow; Mary (Alfred) Burke, Bailey’s Brook; brothers, Anthony (Kim) Chisholm, Steven (Rachel) Chisholm, Merigomish; grandchildren, Alexandra, Ashley, Lindsey, Chloe and Carter; godchildren, Alexander and Kaylee; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 35 years, Linda (Briard) in 2009; brother, John.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct 7th in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Lismore with Father Colin MacKinnon presiding. Interment will be in St. Andrew’s Cemetery, Egerton.
Donations may be made in Jim’s memory to the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Pictou County VON or the Canadian Cancer Society.
