Obituary of Mary Jane Douglas

ABERCROMBIE - Mary Jane Douglas, 93, Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of Abercrombie, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, June 25, 2014 in the Villa, surrounded by her family. Born in Locharber, she was a daughter of the late John Lewis and Margaret (Ferguson) MacDonald. Prior to retirement, she had been employed as a cook with Valley View Villa. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow. Mary enjoyed baking and was an excellent cook, a skill she passed on to her sons. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed teaching sewing. Mary was a fun loving lady who greatly enjoyed a good game of checkers, especially when she was besting her sons. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Surviving are her sons, C. Victor Douglas, Halifax; Gordon (Jill) Douglas, Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.; Dennis (Nancy) Douglas, New Glasgow; grandchildren, Lesa , Ernest (Nancy C.), Marlee, Mac and Colin; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Ernest Gordon Douglas; daughter-in-law, Alice; siblings, Viola, Ferguson, Hazel, Annie, Huntley and Wilfred. The family will receive visitor’s 2-4 p.m. Sunday, June 29 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 30 in the chapel with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Interment will be in Abercrombie Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in Mary’s memory to Abercrombie Fire Department or any charity of choice.
