Obituary of Franklin Alexander Smith
TRENTON – Franklin Alexander Smith, 80, Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, formerly of Trenton, passed away Monday, October 29, 2012 in the Aberdeen Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, New Glasgow.
The last surviving member of his immediate family, Frank was born July 30, 1932 on McGrath’s Mountain, a son of the late Alexander and Florence (Ehler) Smith.
Raised on McGrath’s Mountain, he moved to New Glasgow where he met and married Marie (Horton). They lived in Trenton the majority of their married life, and in recent years, both resided in Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow.
Frank began working with the former Sobeys’ Bakery, New Glasgow, then as a watchmaker for many years with the former Fred Edwards Watch Repair, New Glasgow. Prior to retirement, he was employed with the former Tibbetts Paints, Trenton for over 20 years. Frank was a quiet, unassuming man who kept up to date with current events, day to day life of family and friends. He enjoyed all sports, especially baseball. He was a collector of sports memorabilia. Best of all, he liked nothing better than a rousing game of cards, especially if he was winning!
Frank will forever be remembered by his wife of 59 years, Marie (Horton) Smith, Glen Haven Manor; loving son, Stephen (Michele), Trenton; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by an infant son; brother, Basil.
There will be no visitation at Frank’s request. A private graveside service will be held in Foxbrook Cemetery, Hopewell, at a later date.
Donations may be made in Frank’s memory to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or a charity of choice.
