Obituary of Laura Isabel Allard

STELLARTON – Laura Isabel Allard, 91, Stellarton, passed away, Tuesday, October 7, 2014 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Austin Humphrey and Harriet (Barracloug) Nickerson. She attended Stellarton High School and devoted her life to raising her seven children. Laura was proud to be called “mom” and loved spending time with all four generations of her family. Mom was happiest when family and friends dropped in for a cup of tea or a sweet bite. Through sharing stories and laughter, everyone left her home feeling better after their visit. Mom enjoyed camping, fishing and a good game of cards. She was a 50 year plus member of the Tuesday Night Card Club. She loved spending time looking out her living room window watching the “comings and goings” on her beloved “Red Row”. Mom “never grew old”, always willing to try new adventures, her mind remained active until the end. Surviving are daughters, Barbara (Keith) Poirier, Pictou; Brenda (Dennis) Martin, Black Point; Patsy (James “Ted”) Tracy, Halifax; Laurie Anne (Mark), New Glasgow; sons, Kenneth (Martha), New Glasgow; Clarence (Rhoda), Pictou; sister, Stella Campbell, New Glasgow; 21 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; five great, great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Hardy Joseph Allard; son, Donnie in infancy; sisters, Mae, Florence and Ethel; brothers, Billy, Joseph, Percy, Harold and Cecil. Special thanks to her friend and caregiver, Theresa, who made it possible for Laura to remain in her own home for as long as possible. To Dr. Rasha Manahi for her home visits and special care. To the VON girls who provided excellent care while getting to know Laura and appreciate her sense of humour and upbeat attitude. In keeping with Laura’s wishes a family graveside service will be held in MacLellan’s Mountain Cemetery at a later date.
