Obituary of Beverly Georgina Wilson

NEW GLASGOW – Beverly Georgina Wilson, 81, New Glasgow passed away Monday, October 10, 2011, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in New Glasgow, she was the daughter of the late William Sinclair and Marjorie Joseph (Taylor) Munro. In 1949 she married the love of her life, Wilbert MacKenzie Wilson, raising four wonderful children and sharing life together for 55 years. Beverly graduated from the former Normal College, Truro in 1948 and taught for 34 years. She began her teaching career in a one-room school house in Little Harbour and Springville. She taught in Acadia Street School and New Glasgow Junior High School, New Glasgow, retiring in 1988. She often reflected warmly on her years as a teacher, her appreciation for her co-workers and the students she taught. Beverly embraced life, enjoying travelling, reading, quilting, walking and a great many other activities. She was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed Tai Chi, was a member of the YMCA and the Northumberland Quilters’ Association. Beverly was an active volunteer with the Canadian Cancer Society, Meals on Wheels, Aberdeen Hospital Gift Shop and Helpline. She was a member of St. George’s Anglican Church, New Glasgow where she served with the Sanctuary Guild. Beverly cherished the company of her many family and friends. Surviving are her sons, William (Beverley), Halifax; John (Brenda), New Glasgow; daughters, Marjorie (Paul) Goodkey, Ottawa; Cathy Wilson (Kevin), New Glasgow; brother, Gerald Hugh Munro, New Glasgow; grandchildren, Lauren and Marielle Wilson; Brittany, Erica and Chase Wilson; Vanessa, Dean and Shaun Goodkey; brothers-in-law, Jim (Edna) Wilson, New Glasgow; Lawrence (Barbara) Wilson and Morton (Ethel) Wilson, Liscomb; sisters-in-law, Hazel (John) Coughlan, Ottawa; Rosalie Burns, Dartmouth; Eileen Wilson and Dorothy Wilson, New Glasgow; cousins, Mildred Rae, Halifax and Harold (Winnie) Baird, Brandon, Man.; many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Wilbert, she was predeceased by a grandson at birth; brothers-in-law, Harold, Frederick (Eileen), Edwin, Everett and Floyd Wilson, John Burns; sisters-in-law, Winnifred (Harry) Dacey, Anna (William) Boutlier and Ada (Kermit) Young. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 14th in St. George’s Anglican Church, 199 Temperance, New Glasgow with Rev. Mark Pretty presiding. Interment will be in Brookside Cemetery. The family wish to thank all Beverly’s dear friends and relatives who supported her throughout her illness. Special thank you to the Pictou County VON, Pictou County Home Health Care and all associated with the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit, for the care given to Beverly. Family flowers only.
