Obituary of James Bernard "Jim" O'Connor
LOWER BARNEY’S RIVER – James Bernard “Jim” O’Connor, 86, Lower Barney’s River, passed away Friday, November 28, 2014 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by his family.
Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Charles and Josephine (Dempsey) O’Connor. Prior to retirement, he operated Peak Enterprises Limited for 10 years. Previously, he was employed as a millwright with Local 1178 Millwrights and Carpenters Union. Jim enjoyed singing and playing his guitar and banjo. For many years he would entertain at the Riverview Home and at other community functions. Jim enjoyed working and spent many hours improving his hobby farm. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. Jim possessed a deep faith in God and enjoyed studying the Bible.
Surviving are his wife, Mary E. (Watson); daughter, Brenda (Barry) Dunn, Sylvester; sons, Dave (Rosemary) O’Connor, Merigomish; Patrick (Elaina) O’Connor, Lower Barney’s River; step-daughters, Lisa (Shaun) Briand, Pictou; Jenifer (David) MacDonald, Linacy; step-sons, James (Cynthia) Underwood, Pictou; Michael (Silvi) Underwood, Saskatoon, Sask.; sister, Cecelia (Bob) Cochrane, Waverly; grandchildren, Crystal, Tim, Ryan, Rachel, Joyce, Cory, Jordan, Peyton, Myla, Ty, Cale, Joshua, Matthew and Blair; great-grandchildren, Noah, Kaleb, Faith, Josie, Brett, Maggie, David and Victoria; numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Joyce (MacDonald); daughter, Faith; many sisters and brothers.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. A public graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1 in Murray’s Point Cemetery, Lower Barney’s River.
