Obituary of Colleen Theresa MacKay

NEW GLASGOW – Colleen Theresa MacKay, 81, Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of New Glasgow, passed away peacefully, Sunday, June 15, 2014 in the Villa, surrounded by her family. Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Daniel Alexander and Alice Veronica (MacIsaac) MacDonald. Colleen was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow where she had served with the CWL. In earlier years, she had been employed with Wear Well Garments, the former Cameron and Fraser Limited and MacNeil’s Variety. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and teaching ceramics. Colleen was a lady of strong faith, which she expressed through love of family and the many foster children who received her tender care. Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Fulton MacKay; children, Jimmy (Diane) MacKay, Oxford; Shirley (Charlie) Irving, Jackson’s Cove, Nlfd.; William “Billy” MacKay, Victoria, B.C.; Flo (Bill) MacKeigan, Pictou; daughter-in-law, Roberta MacKay, Lyons Brook; grandchildren, Sabrina, Jamie, Theresa, Cecil, Kerri-Lee, David, Holly, Michael and Meghan; many great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley (Wayne) Franklin, Dryden, Ont.; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by sister, Donalda Robley; brother, John MacDonald and a brother in infancy. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Thursday in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church with Father Gary MacPherson presiding. Cremation to follow with private interment in Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in Colleen’s memory to Valley View Villa Recreation Fund. www.pkmacdonald.ca
