LINACY - Frederick Day “Fred” Simpson, 86, Linacy, passed away peacefull,y Sunday, August 4, 2013 surrounded by his family in the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit, New Glasgow. Born in French River, he was the youngest child of the late Sinclair and Maimie (Simpson) Browning and the chosen son of Isaac and Rena Simpson. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was employed as a machinist at Trenton Works for almost 40 years and was also a talented locksmith. Fred was an outdoor enthusiast, spending as much time as possible at “the camp”. An avid collector, he amazed family and friends with a wide variety of unique tools, locks and entertaining stories. Most importantly, Fred collected together his family and friends and held them dear. Fred was a loving, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, who will be greatly missed. Surviving are his devoted wife of 63 years, Dorothy (Howard); son, David (Eva) Simpson, Sea Foam; daughters, Charleen (Owen) Ferguson, Trenton; Sandra (Mike) Malenfant, Durham; Cheryl Stewart (Bert MacDonald),Linacy; grandchildren, Lee, Dana, Rene, Matthew, Chris, Ben, Heidi, Josh, Dale and Terri; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Mary Jackson, Cassie Woolley, Edith MacLaren and Lillian Woolley; brothers, Gordon Browning and Weldon Simpson. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 7 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday August 8 in the chapel with Rev. Dr. Jim Shaffner presiding.
