Obituary of Harold Arthur Fisher
GRIMSHAW, ALTA. – Harold Arthur Fisher, 90, Grimshaw, Alta., formerly of Grants Pas, Oregon and Abercrombie, passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2014 at Stone Brook Supportive Living, Grimshaw.
Born in Springhill, he was the eldest son of the late Seibert Raymond and Elsie (Chell) Fisher. Harold served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War (1943-1945) as a wireless gunner. Following, he trained as a machinist and was employed with the Steel Furnishing Company, Trenton Works, Spencer Motors Limited and retired from Michelin Tires in 1985. During his time in the Royal Canadian Air Force, he developed a lifelong affection for electronics. In younger years, he handcrafted an electric guitar from a block of hardwood and built the accompanying amplifier. Harold was a passionate musician, who continued to use his homemade guitar, playing and singing gospel music in local jam sessions until his recent illness. Harold shared over 45 years with his first wife, Betty and over 10 years with his second wife, Barbara in Grants Pas. He recently moved to Grimshaw due to his requirement for medical care. Above everything in life, Harold possessed a confident faith in his Lord and is now safe in the arms of Jesus for eternity.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Fisher, Grants Pas, Oregon; daughters, Arlene (Brian) McCracken, Bluesky, Alta.; Debbie (Stewart) Wilson, Berwyn, Alta.; son, Ivan (Ann) Fisher, New Glasgow; sisters, Dorothy Fisher, New Glasgow; Doris Cummings, River Denys; Pauline Chapman, New Glasgow; Elsie Freeman, Pictou Landing; Greta (Cecil) Hatt, New Glasgow; Betty Fisher, Pictou Landing; brother, Gordon (Ruth) Fisher, Bridgewater; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Betty (Mills); sons, Harold in infancy, David and Alan; grandson, Brent Fisher; brother, Chelbert; brothers-in-law, Gordon Cummings, Cecil Chapman; Norman “Mike” Freeman.
The family will receive visitors 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow followed by a private committal service in Lorne Street Cemetery, New Glasgow.
